January 2019: Creative Digital Photography for Beginners, 6- Week Course

6-week course. Wednesday Evenings from 7-9pm.

January 23rd, 30th, February 6th, 13th, 17th and 20th at Uillinn, West Cork Arts Centre

Learn how to use your digital SLR camera to make beautiful and creative photographs with experienced teacher, visual artist and photographer Mick Holly.

In this course the student will learn how to use their digital SLR Camera for creative photography. Camera and photography basics such as shooting in Manual mode, creative use of shutter and aperture, understanding light, and digital organisation and post production will be covered. The student will work on a small creative project during the course which will be ultimately printed and presented in class. Students will be provided with notes for each class. A digital mirrorless or SLR Camera is required.

Week 1: Digital SLR Camera basics, understanding your camera’s functions, exposure modes, creative use of shutter speed and aperture

Week 2: Understanding light, depth of field and basic portrait photography

Week 3: Understanding the lens, nighttime, flash and low-light photography,

Week 4: Composing a photograph and creative use of colour. Understanding the digital image.

Week 5: Field Trip

Week 6: Downloading, cataloging and digitally adjusting your images, creating a slideshow of your images for web use, project presentation

Expect creativity, fun and one-on-one tuition.

Cost: €110. Places are limited to 12 participants per course.


March 2019: Creative Digital Photography level II, 6- Week Course

6-week course. Evenings from 7-9pm. Beginning Wednesday March 13, 2018
Cost: €110.  Places are limited to 10 participants per course.

In this course, participants who already have an understanding of Digital SLR photography will be given the opportunity to further develop their camera skills and to apply them in a creative setting through projects and practical exercises. Participants will work on a creative photo-series and will print and frame an enlarged image for the last class. A Digital SLR or mirrorless camera and tripod is required for this course.

This course is for amateur/enthusiast photographers with some experience with photography, and an interest in learning to use photography for creative means.
